Redwood Middle Celebrates Groundbreaking Ceremony for John L. Notter Family Club

It was a great day for new beginnings at Redwood Middle School today! Thanks to years of planning and hard work, the vision to have a beautiful, permanent Boys & Girls Club facility to serve the Redwood community and students is now one big step closer to fruition.

There were shovels and hard hats on hand as key representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley, the Conejo Valley Unified School District, the City of Thousand Oaks, and the broader community shared in a special groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on the John L. Notter Family Club.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley first began providing enrichment programs and activities to Redwood students in 2007. Since 2008, the Boys & Girls Club has operated out of two modular rooms located on the Redwood campus. Currently the Club serves 108 Redwood student members out of these modular rooms.

“Our relationship with the Boys & Girls Club goes far beyond shared facilities,” said Shauna Ashmore, Principal of Redwood Middle School. “We work together on a weekly basis to provide students with another safe and inviting place to go before school, at lunchtime, and after school.”

The construction of the new John L. Notter Family Club was made possible by a $1 million donation from the John L. Notter Family, as well as from contributions from other generous donors to fund the $3 million construction project.

The John L. Notter Family Club is anticipated to open its doors this Fall. It is estimated that when the new facility opens its doors it will serve 250 children daily, and more than 500 children via various different activities throughout the year.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley is to enhance the lives of young people and their families by providing a positive environment that cultivates academic success, healthy lifestyles and character and citizenship.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is proud to collaborate with such a fantastic community partner to offer invaluable learning and enrichment opportunities to the students we serve.
