Over the past two weeks our nation and local community has been faced with fear, heartbreak, and anger. The tragic death of Mr. George Floyd and subsequent protests reinforces our deep commitment, as the Superintendent and Board of Education President, to lead with equity and social justice. At our core, we believe public education has both the honor and the responsibility to prepare our students to become contributing members of society who demonstrate compassion, curiosity and respect for one another.

Ms. Martinez-Galvan is a remarkable Thousand Oaks High School teacher who has an excellent rapport with students, parents and colleagues. She is engaging, creative and dedicated to teaching students to care about themselves and the world around them, expanding their knowledge and awareness to their culture and life beyond school. Ms. Martinez-Galvan has been celebrated as an award-winning member of the Latino Community and has implemented a program that provides opportunities for Latino students to become leaders at Thousand Oaks High School and the community. As the Conejo Valley Unified Teacher of the Year, she has been submitted as our nomination for the Ventura County Teacher of the Year.
The Young Investors Society (YIS) Global Stock Pitch Competition sponsored by Investor’s Business Daily was held virtually on May 21, 2020. The competition is the culmination event to showcase investment skills gained by students in the Young Investors Society program throughout the year. Westlake High School's Arjun and Abhinav competed in the West Coast Regionals along with 17 other teams vying for a position at the Global Stock Pitch Competition.
