Sophie State is a gifted educator who ensures all students succeed and reach their full potential. She is innovative in her teaching strategies and believes in the “power of yet,” meaning that all students have the potential to achieve when given the proper time and resources. She teaches biology, ELD, and serves as the Science Center Advisor for Westlake High School, and we are proud to call her our April Teacher of the Month!

You're Invited - Special Event: Addiction and the Brain - Presented by Dr. Victor J. DeNoble

Parents, youth ages 12+, educators and community members are invited to attend Dr. Victor J. DeNoble's presentation, "Addiction and the Brain." This no cost event will take place on Thursday, March 21st from 6:30pm to 7:45pm at the University Center (2801 Atlas Avenue). Attend this event to learn valuable information about the biology of addiction as it relates to youth and families.

Calling ALL Current High School Juniors: Learn More About the C.I.T.Y. Internship Program

C.I.T.Y. is a summer internship program for 11th grade students in the summer before their senior year. This phenomenal program provides students with unique internship opportunities where they'll spend time with local employers, explore career pathways, and gain skills and experience that can be used for future jobs. A C.I.T.Y. internship Fair will be held on March 12, 2019 from 5:30-7pm at the Grant R. Brimhall Library in the Marvin E. Smith Community Room where students will be able to meet with local businesses and learn more about this year's internship opportunities. 


CVUSD Hosts Odyssey of the Mind Regional Tournament - Eight CVUSD Teams Move on to State Competition

Congratulations to all of the CVUSD school teams that participated in the annual LA Basin Odyssey of the Mind Regional competition on Saturday, March 2nd, which was hosted at Westlake High School for the third year in a row. Teams participated from schools in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles County. Eight CVUSD schools advanced from this regional competition to the upcoming California state championships. 

Talking with Children and Teens - Strategies for Maximizing Effective Parenting

Join us for the March Parent/Guardian Education & Workshop Event on Thursday, March 28th from 7pm to 8:30pm where two local parenting and teen experts, Robert Scholz, LMFT and Dr. Cara Kiff, will help you walk away with new strategies on how to better understand and communicate with your child. Whether your relationship is currently strained with your child or you’d just like to learn how to make an already good relationship better, this presentation is sure to offer you something to take and implement in your parent-child relationship.
