Project 2 INSPIRE Parent and Community Education Program Graduation

Project 2Inspire's very first English Learner parent graduation took place on May 2nd at CVUSD's University campus.

The celebration included the recognition of CVUSD's cohorts which are comprised by DELAC (District English Learner Advisory Committee) representatives, and Banyan and Madrona parents who completed the 12 module course this year. The course included researched-based topics proven to help educate immigrant parents on the complexities of the U.S. school system. The program is led by Dr. Deborah Martinez, Coordinator of English Learner Services. This is the first phase of the trainer model for parents.  Dr. Mark McLaughlin, CVUSD Superintendent, and Luis Lichtl, Assistant Superintendent Instructional Services, congratulated the graduating class on their achievements.

The next goal is to train parents in the “English Learner Parents as Leaders” course. In phase two, they will be tasked to share their learning with other parents across the District, and use the ELAC (English Language Advisory Council) platform to present their learning to targeted topics.

Congratulations to all the parents and staff who participated in Project 2 INSPIRE Parent and Community Education Program Cohort, and to the 2019 graduates of this collaborative program!
