Education Opportunities for Families with Young Children Available at Horizon Hills
The Parent Education Program & Cooperative Learning Environment at Horizon Hills, part of Conejo Valley Unified School District’s Adult School, is a play-based program where the parents learn right along with their children. The Cooperative Learning Environment features dedicated, age-appropriate rooms and yards for families with infants, toddlers, two year olds, and 3-5 year olds.
Initial registration for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year begins in March/April and continues until classes are full. Ongoing registration for the 2019-2020 school year is currently available, with fees prorated based on the start date of classes.
Infant, toddler and two-year old classes require full parent participation at all class sessions. In classes for 3- to 5-year-olds, parents participate approximately once a week, and have the opportunity to leave the child in class during non-participation days.
A list of complete class schedules, and enrichment opportunities may be found online here.
Age appropriate curriculum for developing the whole child includes: music, games, stories, art, dress up, science, dancing, cooking, ceramics, gardening, and bikes. The Parenting Program classes run from September through June, and are ongoing throughout the school year.
The Cooperative’s philosophy includes the concept that play is fundamental, and a foundational role in developing successful learners. The fully degreed and credentialed staff are trained in the dual fields of parent education and early childhood education. Tours are available, and may be scheduled by calling (805) 492-8837.
There are also evening, and weekend parenting classes available – including the upcoming Five Steps to Cooperation, taking place in February and March.
