Attention: Any student involved in extra-curricular/co-curricular activities or interested in being involved in these activities - You must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, while passing a minimum of four classes, to maintain your eligibility for athletics, activities, etc. Your participation is also based on your abiding by the rules set forth in the CVUSD Co-Curricular Code and Contract that you and your parent(s)/guardian are required to sign and turn in to the school.

Welcome to Secondary Education

The Secondary Education Department is responsible for directing and supporting the District's Secondary Educational Programs, including curriculum, instructional programs, and administration at all middle schools and high schools. Specific responsibilities include overseeing and implementing:

  • Online Learning and Alternative Education Programs
  • Counseling and Guidance Services
  • Booster organizations
  • Athletics and Activities
  • Independent Study program
  • School-to-Career, Career/Technical Education, and Work Experience
  • Summer School

The Director of Secondary Education reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services. The eight secondary principals and the principal of Adult Education report directly to the Director of Secondary Education.

Work Permit Information


Please contact your school's counseling office to obtain a work permit during the school year.


Below is the summer schedule for work permits. 

NPHS Summer School office:  Drop off & pick up 9am – 12 noon on Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 18th – July 19th.

District Office Secondary Education:  Drop off Monday – Wednesday, July 23rd – August 3rd.  Pick up Tuesday or Thursday only


Please bring in the following items to obtain a work permit: 

1. Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor Form CDE B1-1 

2. A valid photo I.D.

Work Permits are issued per the schedule/location listed above during the summer. All school sites will resume issuing work permits on Monday August 6th.
